The VIPL research group was founded in 1997 by Academician Wen Gao. It is now attached to the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the key Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is also a part of Joint Development Lab of the Advanced Human-Computer Communication Technology(JDL). At present, the main members of the VIPL research group include more than 20 researchers, more than 50 doctoral / graduate students. The research areas covered computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning / depth learning, human-computer interaction and Emotional calculation, and more than 500 research papers have been published in related fields. Of these, more than 100 papers were published in these international journals or conferences of category A recognized by the computer Society. The research results were awarded the second class of National Natural Science Award in 2015 and the second class of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2005. The research group is not only committed to the research of basic theories and methods with high academic influence, but also pays close attention to the technology innovation with potential application value, and many innovative technologies have been applied in practice.
